Job Overview
TLC Nursing Associates, Inc. is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) – Preoperative (Preop) to prepare patients for surgical procedures. The Preop RN plays a critical role in ensuring patient readiness by conducting pre-surgical assessments, administering medications, and educating patients on their procedures and post-operative care. This position requires strong attention to detail, patient care skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct preoperative assessments, including medical history review and vital sign monitoring
- Prepare patients for surgery by initiating IVs, administering pre-surgical medications, and ensuring proper documentation
- Educate patients and families about surgical procedures, anesthesia, and post-operative care
- Ensure compliance with infection control, hospital policies, and patient safety standards
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical teams to optimize patient care
- Monitor patients for any changes in condition before transferring them to the operating room
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in applicable state(s)
- Minimum 1 year of Preop, PACU, or surgical nursing experience preferred
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required
- Strong understanding of preoperative care, surgical protocols, and patient safety measures
- Excellent communication, organizational, and patient advocacy skills
